Hey everyone! Luckily for you I’m back. Amazingly, throughout the week I did hear chatter about the events I wrote about in last week’s piece, and am certain it is because of my blog’s widespread range. The event mentioned the most was the Verity Lane Party on Saturday, which was super successful and fun!
This coming week there are a lot of events on offer – food festivals, politics, light shows – so make sure you get out and experience all that Canberra has to offer.
[one-half-first]Enlighten Canberra is hosting a few shows over the next seven days, with their special event falling between both the past and coming week – Architectural Projections began on Friday 3 March and will continue until Sunday 12 March, running from 8pm – 10pm every night except Friday and Saturdays where the hours extend to 12am. The venue, Parliamentary Triangle, will host the Electric Canvas and selected artists as they present luminous designs across six of Canberra’s popular school excursion destinations: Australian Parliament House, Old Parliament House, National Library of Australia, Questacon, National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery of Australia.[/one-half-first][one-half]

The Enlighten Noodle Markets (part of the Enlighten Festival) are also a must! Buzzing with people, food, culture and lights, this outdoor festival is perfect for hanging out, soaking up the atmosphere, and grazing on stall goodies and gelato. Free entry, 3 – 12 March, Reconciliation Place.
There is also a heap of stuff on this week hosted by ANU societies, which is fantastic because it offers students the chance to get involved with events connected to ANU and make friends on campus.
The South Asian Students’ Society is holding a Rooftop Ekta Welcome Party at Lena Karmel Lodge on Thursday 9 March at 7.30pm. The night’s theme is Bollywood tunes, flavoursome food and a beautiful rooftop view. The dress code is Indo-Western, and yes, there is a ‘Best Dressed’ award.
The ANU International Law Society is hosting a discussion regarding a topic that has been and will continue to be the forefront of every conversation indefinitely – the era of a Donald Trump Presidency. The panel will be comprised of ANU’s Professor Amin Saikal (Director of the ANU Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies), Professor Matthew Zagor (ANU College of Law) and Dr Dorota Gozdecka (ANU College of Law). Attendees will be able to interact with the experts to ask about the future of the international community in regards to the immigration ban, refugees, human rights, and foreign relations in the Middle East region. The event will run from 5.00pm – 7.30pm in the Leonard Huxley Theatre, on Tuesday 7 March.
ANU Career is hosting a Casual Jobs Fair in Melville Hall on Wednesday 8 March from 12pm. The fair will provide visitors with the opportunity to meet a range of local employers and volunteer organisations – if you’re struggling to find work outside of university, then you should certainly stop by.
From Thursday 2 March at 6.00pm till Saturday 11 March, the School of Art and Design is utilising their Main Gallery to showcase the work of their graduate research students. The work of Bifei Cao, Tiffany Cole and Michal Glikson will be on display, demonstrating the skill, knowledge and experience of the artists, and hopefully evoking interest and admiration in observers.
Continuing on the art theme, Canberra Contemporary Art Space’s Cat Mueller is showcasing ‘Morph’ – a series of small-scale acrylic paintings. Mueller’s work uses only ten colours, in order to explore colour relationships – by extracting colours, she attempts to demonstrate how changes in tone affect the overall mood of the painting. Her work will be on display from Thursday 2 March until Sunday 12 March at CCAS, Manuka.
Finally, Moaning Lisa are celebrating the release of their video clip for ‘Shoe-in’ by hosting a party this Thursday 9 March at Phoenix! The quartet, influenced by Wolf Alice and the Pixies, are preparing to release their upcoming EP ‘The Sweetest’. Joining them are two local bands – Moaning Lisa’s favourites at the moment – Eadie & The Doodles and Azim Zain & His Lovely Bones. $10 entry.
