Serve! For ANUSA has announced Lee-Ann De Souza as its Clubs Officer candidate. De Souza is the final member for the ticket’s executive position.
In a press release, the ticket states, “As Bush Week coordinator this year [De Souza] organised and ran over 50 events, giving her the skills and knowledge in empowering and working with clubs, both internal and external social stakeholders, and the broader University community.”
“In every event, she has accessibility and opportunity in mind, providing large scale events for all, as well as postgraduate and HDR specific events too. She prides herself on her organisation, attention to detail and outgoing nature.”
“Currently, [she] is in the process of consulting residential hall social teams, clubs, and interested people in constructing this full and representative vision of the social scene on campus.”
While De Souza is a member of Actuarial Society, Psychology, International Relations and Science societies, the ticket falls short of citing any Club leadership experience. Clubs Officers are constitutionally required to, “support the leadership and administration of clubs according to the Club regulation”, “report to SRC on club affairs” and “advocate for the interests of clubs at all levels.”
However, experience in club leadership tends to be an exceptional case for past Clubs Officers. Other than current Clubs Officer Seungbin Kang was involved in one the biggest clubs on campus, the ANU Anime and Gaming Society, previous Clubs Officers including Charlotte Carnes and Phoenix O’Neill did not have significant club leadership experience.
While her experience with Bush week remains promising, it’s yet to be seen how De Souza will make up for her lack of Club leadership experience.
